• Understanding the hierarchy of the family really came into focus for me when I considered that we’re all really submitting to Christ and to where God has placed us, not necessarily to the other human beings in our lives but that our submission in the hierarchy demonstrates our Christlike behavior and reverence.

  • I feel today’s culture degrades angels in the movies. It makes me sad to think we reduce them to superheroes or make them into poor examples of humans in our entertainment.

    • Hi Susan, I definitely understand where you are coming from. There are the (very rare) cases where a husband may ask his wife to commit a sin, in which case the wife would need to respectfully decline in order to obey the higher authority (God’s word). However, I do believe that this is more often than not the exception to the rule.

Remember, Ephesians 5:22 commands us to submit to our husbands “AS UNTO the Lord”, so we must remember that this is the unique way in which a woman submits to God – through her husband.

Again, there is the extreme case in which “we must obey God rather than men”, but in my experience, the average, every day husband is not asking his wife to do evil deeds. Unless such an extreme is occurring, I hold that absolute submission is most certainly aligned with God’s will.

Please note that all of this is said in absolute kindness (it can be hard to tell through a screen). I hope this comment could add further clarification, as sometimes an article simply can not cover all the bases. Thank you very much for reading my blog!

  • Knowing that ultimately I am submitting to Christ has helped me, as a controlling person, to submit to my husband. That was a difficult thing for me to change about myself and I think for many people it is something that don’t want to hear because they don’t fully understand what is meant when God says to submit to your husbands.

  • I am so thankful to God for opening my eyes to what a wife (help meet) should be, it has changed my life and made my marriage a glorious one! Your blogs are so encouraging! ❤
